We are looking for a Special School Support Assistant to provide support to pupils with a range of additional needs including medical difficulties, visual impairment and behavioural support. The support will include attending to their individual care needs, (such as feeding, toileting and some medical procedures) and supporting classroom curriculum focused activities and physiotherapy and the use of alternative communication devices such as eye gaze, PECs, PODD and Makaton.

A commitment to Greenmead children and their complex needs is essential, plus the ability to work as part of a team. Greenmead is a primary school for children aged 2 – 11 years who have severe physical disabilities and associated communication and learning problems. Many of the children have additional medical needs.

You will be joining a supportive, enthusiastic and committed team who are very excited about being in a new, purpose built school. We are co-located with our mainstream neighbours, Ronald Ross Primary School, which has created new and exciting opportunities for shared learning.

You will receive training to support you in your role and to further develop your professional expertise.

Are you passionate about securing the best outcomes for children with special educational needs and have experience in leading an area of the curriculum across the wider school?

Due to relocation, we are seeking to recruit an outstanding teacher for our Keystage 1 department and someone who is experienced in leading a curriculum area across the wider school.

Greenmead School is an Outstanding Special School (September 2016) for primary aged pupils who have severe learning difficulties, some who have additional communication and physical disabilities.

We are looking for someone who is;

  • A qualified teacher with QTS
  • Has knowledge and experience in teaching children with special educational needs and physical disabilities for at least 4 years
  • Has the ability to inspire and develop pupils to achieve their full potential
  • Excited about working in collaboration with multi-professional agencies to secure the best outcomes for all children
  • Has excellent classroom management skills and is able to effectively lead a team of support assistants
  • Has experience in leading in an area of the curriculum to promote teaching and learning across the school
  • Is able to support less experienced colleagues to develop their teaching practice and pedagogy
